Canonical URL
A canonical URL is the version of a page you tell search engines to treat as the original when several URLs serve similar content.
Why it matters
Search engines treat your canonical as a hint, not an instruction, so the URL you declared and the URL the engine actually selected can differ — and the selected one is what gets indexed.
